Africa and the Oldest civilization in the world!

In Africa you can be sure to find all kinds of diverse and different cultures, creatures and a very deep past. The past has captured the imaginations of many people across the planet, and Africa offers some that cannot be rivalled.

The first recorded detailed writings in Africa were those written by the Egyptians in 4000 BC. They showed some truly astonishing intelligence, built pyramids and had presented the world with an amazing civilization. Many scientists and academics believe that if you are to look back in time to decipher which was the first civilization on our planet, you should look at who had the first comprehensive writings, this means it would have been the Egyptians. Even before this, over 100,000 years ago, the plains of Africa were very different. Fossils showed that they supported Homo sapiens, which are the same genus as us.

The African Countryside was as said, very different to the desolate plains it is now. After the ice age had happened at around ten millennia in the past, the land of what we call the Sahara Desert was all grassland. This sort of area would have meant that growing livestock and grain would have been easy. Because of the positioning of Africa on our Globe, the area begun to dry up and Desertification took place. These people would then have had to migrate to plains with more grassland. At three thousand BC, there were some cultures who had domesticated creatures like the humble mule to do farm jobs for them.

Africa has been celebrated for its completely unique art. It would be impossible for you to find the amount of assorted arts and cultures in any other country compared to that of Africa. With so many peoples and different cultures everywhere you visit you will find a different type of art. The main emphasis that is generalised across the whole of Africa is the human figure. This generalisation of art is a representation of a loved one, a dead friend or family member or of somebody of great importance. They were extremely adept at creating pieces of abstract art but are now creating pieces of Contemporary art~The African speciality was Abstract art, they created much of it, but recently they have become quite skilled at creating pieces of Contemporary art.

The best way to find out about Africa yourself; is to go on Safari. Kenya safari has become a popular holiday to find out more about the Land of Africa.

Beautiful Global Tourist Destinations

Traveling for business, leisure or recreational purposes is called tourism, and tourists are the people traveling to and staying in different places for more than a day. The economic slump in the global economy has brought a strong slowdown in the international travel demand, and the growth of worldwide international tourism arrivals has fallen to 2%.

In many countries, tourism is vital, as employment opportunities in the service industry and money for businesses is dependent on it. These services include cruise ships, taxis, airlines, accommodations, entertainment venues, music venues, theaters and so on.

Global Tourist Attractions

As per the reports by World Tourism Organization, France, Spain, US, China, Italy, UK, Germany, Ukraine, Turkey and Mexico are the top ten most visited countries in the world traveled by international tourists. European continent countries have always been the top visited countries. Due to strength of Euro against the dollar, German tourists have been the top spenders.

As per the ranking released by Forbes Traveler, Times Square in New York City of US gets 35 million visitors every year and is the most visited attraction by domestic and international tourists. Other most frequently visited international tourist attractions include Memorial parks in Washington DC, Orlando’s Magic Kingdom, London’s Trafalgar Square, California’s Disneyland, Ontario’s Niagara Falls, California’s Fisherman’s Wharf and Golden Gate, Urayasu’s Tokyo DisneySea and Tokyo Disneyland, and Paris’s Notre Dame and Disneyland Paris.

Important Tips for Tourists

Before you make plans to visit any country, make sure that it is a safe tourist destination, and you can enjoy your stay there. While staying in any hotel, put the valuable documents, airline tickets, cash and other items in the hotel safe before leaving the room. While sightseeing, be aware of your surroundings, and talk to the local residents or local staff about the areas to avoid. If you are in a public place, never leave your property unattended. Call the taxi from a reliable service. Stay away from deserted and dark areas, and talk to the tourism office personnel regarding local conditions. Keep the important phone numbers handy. It is also helpful to learn few words of the native language.

Types of Tourism

There are various types of tourism enjoyed by the tourists all over the world. As tourism can be of various types, some popular ones are pilgrimage tourism, winter tourism, health tourism, mass tourism, and niche tourism. There are many other sector enjoyed by the tourists such as coastal tourism, ancestry tourism, creative tourism, learning-oriented tourism, bookstore tourism, heritage tourism, hobby tourism, music and dance tourism, sports-oriented tourism, medical tourism, wine tourism, gourmet tourism, garden tourism, dark tourism, free independent tourism, metaphysical tourism, space tourism and so on. Sustainable Tourism

For sustainable tourism, we need to protect the cultural environment as well as the natural environment.  We need to respect local cultures and ways of life, and contribute positively to local communities.

The potential negative effects of tourism are both local and global… but by practicing green tourism, the harm we cause will be minimized.

If we’re not careful, we’ll degrade the environment and the cultures we travel to see.  Where ever we travel, we need to keep in mind that the local people have to profit from our visit.  If you go someplace because there are wonderful native handicrafts, you need to buy some of those handicrafts from locals, so they get the money.

If you’re visiting a national park, you need to employ locals as guides so they will continue to value and protect the park.  Those are the kinds of things that make for sustainable tourism.

Here are some more things to think about when choosing a hotel, a tour group or activity…..

Is the hotel locally owned and operated so that the profits stay in the community? At least the staff should be local citizens?

How does the hotel contribute to the local community?Does the restaurant’s fruit and vegetables come from local farms? Are the gift shop souvenirs made locally?

If you’re taking a tour, travel with a tour operator who is environmentally responsible.  Smaller group sizes make less of an impact… and make for a more enjoyable tour for you!

Is the group lead by a local guide?  Does the tour company contribute to the local community in some way?  To have sustainable tourism, the local community needs to benefit; not just some global tour company.

When hiking, stay on marked trails.Stay well away from any wildlife you come upon… for your safety AND for theirs.  “Leave only footprints”… carry your trash out or use trash bins.

If you’re snorkeling or diving, don’t touch the coral.  Be careful with your fins, it’s easy to kick the coral if you’re not paying attention or to stir up sediment.  Either way you can damage the reef’s fragile ecosystem… and most reefs are in trouble now, so they need all of our help.

Try to buy local products…  You’ll support the local economy… and we all need that now no matter what country you’re visiting.  Foods will be fresher, give you a taste of local cuisine and save fuel because they haven’t traveled half way around the world… only YOU have!  Fewer imported products will be needed.

Never buy anything that you know or suspect is made from endangered animals or plants.  You probably can’t get it through customs, and if you believe in sustainable tourism, you don’t want to contribute to the extinction of another species!

Treat locals with respect.  You went there to learn about their culture!Know several words… at least hello, good-bye and thank you.  Be open to our cultural differences.  Read up on the area you’ll be visiting so you’ll know how to dress so you don’t offend anyone.  Check to see if there are any behaviors or gestures that will offend your hosts.

Rejoice in our positive differences.  Support them, and you’ll be contributing to sustainable tourism.

Who Needs A Passport

Who needs a passport?  The short answer is if you’re going to travel internationally, you do.  But of course, nothing is ever quite that simple.

We’ve covered that it’s a travel document issued by your home country that allows you to leave and return.  Citizens of all countries need one to travel out of their country and into another, but there are exceptions.

For instance, citizens in the European Union do not need theirs to pass from one country in the EU into another.  U.S. Citizens and others often do not need to show theirs to travel between countries in the EU either, but you need one to GET INTO one of the European Union counties in the first place.

If you are a U.S. citizen, you will need this travel document now more than ever.  You’ve always needed one to fly to Europe or Asia or beyond…. now you need a passport to fly to Mexico, the Caribbean, or Canada.

In the past you could enter Canada, Mexico and most Caribbean islands with your birth certificate and a photo ID card. September 11, 2001 changed all that.

To cross  the borders into Canada and Mexico by land or by sea (that is driving or cruising) you currently need a passport, a passport card or a WHTI-compliant document.  Or you need a government-issued Photo ID, such as a driver’s license, along with proof of citizenship such as a birth certificate.

Don’t you love “government speak”?  WHTI stands for Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative.  There is a whole list of rules about what a WHTI-compliant document is.  If you think you qualify for one of these, you’d better check the rules at the U.S. Department of State and be sure.

Starting in July of 2008, the U.S. government began issuing U.S. Passport Cards.  These wallet-size cards are convenient and less expensive, but they can NOT be used for international AIR travel

Children traveling with you need passports too.  Even infants.

And yes…they must be current.  Each traveler’s documents must be current and valid.  Depending on the rules of the country you’re traveling to, they might have to be valid for 3 to 6 months after you return from your trip. That means they can’t expire for several months after your return.

It is up to you to make sure you have the proper documentation.  You should not take the word of the airline you’re traveling with or the TSA or a travel agent.  They can all give you advice, but if any of them is misinformed, it’s your trip that will be delayed or ruined.

While I’m trying to give you the best advice I can, it’s confusing, and the best advice is to check with the U.S. Department of State or your local government agency.  The very best advice I can give you is this… If you’re going to travel anywhere outside of the borders of the United States or your home country, just get a passport.

Australian Visas : How To Get One

How to get an Australian visa is the topic of this installment of our guide to emigrating to Australia

To enter Australia you need to have a visa issued by the Australian government. This applies regardless of what you plan to do in Australia or how long you plan to stay there and anyone who doesn’t have one will find themselves being refused entry on arrival at the airport or port (it must be applied for in advance of your arrival as applications are arrival are not permitted).

You can find details of the various types of visas offered by visiting http://www.immi.gov.au, where you can also download an immigration application form. Be sure to read through all of the information and advice provided on the website to ensure that you’re both applying for the right type of visa and are eligible for it.

The completing of the application form is an essential step as there’s no other way to obtain a visa (such as from an embassy, from a third party, on arrival, etc.). Once you have filled it in you should send it to the Department of Immigration and Culture (often shortened to DIAC).

It’s absolutely crucial that any paperwork submitted is done so correctly or your application will be returned to you, and you will, unfortunately, have to re apply. You can use a migration agent to help you with this if you have any concerns about your ability to do it yourself.

Fees for visas vary dramatically depending upon the visa category you are applying under. With police checks, medical records, government fees etc, the cost of the application can, sometimes, be a considerable expense. The time taken to process your application also varies, though you should allow a minimum of 12 months.

The DIAC will inform you of their decision by letter, which will also include details of how to get your passport updated (if your application was successful) or how do apply for a review of their decision (if your application was unsuccessful).
