Why Is East Africa So Different?

Volunteering in Malawi has infact been increasing over the past 20 years or so. Volunteering overseas is becoming exceedingly popular amongst many travellers. Volunteering in Zanzibar is by and largley one of the most popular destinations volunteer’s are visiting today. There are various obvious reasons behind the success stories of Kenya and Tanzania. They are both very stable countries in comparison with a lot of Africa. They have famous attractions known world wide such as the Masai Mara, Mt Kilimanjaro and of course the Serengeti. They have unique tribes and cultures which are vastly different from the rest of the world including the Masai and Samburu people.

These countries have consequently become famous due to these internationally known attractions thus attracting volunteers from all over the world. The volunteer’s main aim of visiting the country is to offer their help and support to the local communities that really need it. Many of the attractions of the country will be on the volunteers list of things to do whilst there. Countries like this benefit greatly from the volunteers. Not only do local communities within the country benefit greatly but the country itself earns revenue from the volunteers taking part in safaris and climbing mountains and beach tourism.

East Africa is relatively safe in comparison to its neighbouring countries such as Somalia and Sudan. The uprising and development is taking rapid shape in many of these areas boosting tourism numbers as more facilities are being constantly erected. It is important for the governments to keep the countries stable allowing the constant growth to continue.

The local communities of Africa are not the only people to benefit from the voluntary assistance they are supplied with. The volunteers themselves benefit profoundly with the feeling of motivation, inspiration, self belief and of course achievement as what they have achieved within the local community. Volunteering is a great motivator for the individual and helps open up a wide range of doors for the future.
